Choosing the Perfect Dog Breed for You

Not every dog suits every person. A big, burly fisherman might not find a tea cup poodle to his liking. A socialite can’t carry her Saint Bernard in her glittery purse. And, it’s not all just about image, either. Different dogs are great with kids and other dogs need so much exercise that they need an owner who’s got a very active lifestyle.

Some dogs are best suited for apartments and others need room to roam. Some dog breeds are ideal for people with allergies and some dogs really shouldn’t be placed with families. Choosing the right dog for your lifestyle and personality will help you get the most out of your pet and it will help your pet get the most out of you, too!

Take the time and choose the right dog

Choosing a dog breed is important. There are so many factors to consider that some people never think of. Not taking the time to pick the right dog could result in an unhappy and unhealthy animal and unhappy owner as well. A dog should mesh and gel with your family and the best way to ensure that happens and ensure you bring home a new four-legged family member that’ll be home to stay is to understand what dog might be right for you and even more importantly, determine which dog breed is wrong for you.

You can narrow the list of many different dog breeds available by deciding what you want and what you don’t want and you might think a particular breed is right for your lifestyle until closer examination. Doing your due diligence up front is a very wise decision!

Don’t impulse shop for a dog!

Dog shopping should never ever be an impulse buy. That’s why so many pooches live in animal shelters without families to love! People need to carefully weigh many factors to help them decide if they want a big dog or small dog, an active or sedentary dog, choose the dog with the appropriate coat and decide whether they want a male or female dog.

What do you want your dog to do for you? If you want a companion dog versus a watch dog, you’ll need to consider that when making your choice. If you want a family dog versus a hunting dog, that’s important to consider. Some dogs suit many purposes concurrently and can be out hunting during the day and sleeping by the foot of your child’s bed at night but not all dogs possess the skills and traits that suit all purposes. Some dogs, despite their enormous size would love to be a lap dog. Dogs have differing personalities regardless of their breed but having facts about different breeds before you choose a dog and making a decision about your own motivations for wanting a dog will help you reduce the likelihood of choosing the wrong dog.
